We, the people of Vorarlberg, are known to be rather reserved when it comes to making new friends, BUT we are also very actively and passionately involved in our clubs, volunteering, and hobbies. Enthusiasm for a cause brings us together, SO here are a few suggestions on where you can best get to know us:
Johannes Oelz is the chairman of the Tennis Club Dornbirn and provides insights into club life:
What does your club do?
The Tennis Club Dornbirn, with over 700 members, is the largest tennis club in Vorarlberg and even one of the largest in western Austria.
Our facility consists of a clubhouse with a beautiful terrace, 10 clay courts (6 of which are equipped with floodlights), a beach volleyball court, a bocce court, and a padel court (operated by “Padelzone”).
How often do you meet?
A great advantage of this sport is that you are completely flexible with tennis – when, how long, and how often you play. We have an online booking system, and our members can play from 6 AM to 11 PM.
Two trainers offer tennis lessons for all skill levels, from beginners to advanced players. This way, you can start the sport with optimal guidance or perfect your skills.

What is special about the Tennis Club Dornbirn?
The large number of club members allows you to find playing partners at any skill level, and there is always something going on. With our online player exchange, you can easily find a suitable training partner online. Friendships are quickly formed during a match.
We are also leaders in youth work and talent development, offering many programs specifically for children (ball school and fun camp) and teenagers.
How did you come to the club?
I myself was in the club as a child and in my youth. After more than 8 years outside Vorarlberg, I quickly reconnected with the club.
Do you accept new members? If so, what should they bring?
We are very open and welcome new members. All you need to bring is motivation and, ideally, tennis equipment 😉
Where and what is your job?
I work in Dornbirn at a regional bank in Vorarlberg.
How do you balance club and job?
Balancing club and job works excellently for us.
Even better, tennis is a welcome physical activity in the evening or on weekends for many. You can relieve stress, switch off from the day’s tasks, and recharge by socializing after the game.
Would you like to compete in tennis?
